Frequently asked questions
Straight answers from a team led by a chartered process engineer. We tell you what our filters do — and what they don't.
The basics
Isn't Australian tap water already safe to drink?
Yes. Australian mains water is treated, monitored and regulated to a high standard. AQVO isn't about making your water “safe” — it's about comfort and quality of experience: reducing the chlorine taste and smell, easing the dryness chlorine can cause to skin and hair, and catching sediment or rust from older pipes.
What's the difference between chlorine and chloramine?
Chlorine is the most common disinfectant in Australian water. Some networks use chloramine (chlorine combined with ammonia), which is more stable and harder to filter out. AQVO filters are highly effective on free chlorine and less effective on chloramine — we'd rather be upfront about that than overclaim. If you're not sure which your area uses, your local water provider can tell you.
Will AQVO remove fluoride?
No. These filters do not remove fluoride — that requires reverse osmosis. We won't claim otherwise.
Do you make health claims?
No. We're led by a chartered process engineer and we'd rather under-promise than overstate. We describe what each filter measurably does (like chlorine reduction) and we don't attach health claims to the mineral or “water-feel” media. We also don't claim removal of PFAS, heavy metals, bacteria or viruses without product-specific testing.
Shower filter (SF002)
What does the AQVO shower filter actually do?
Its cartridge is about 70% dechlorination media and 30% mineral blend. The dechlorination media reduces up to 98% of free chlorine as water passes through — that's the measurable job, based on supplier testing. Real-world results vary with water chemistry, temperature, flow rate and cartridge age. The tourmaline and mineral blend is there for water feel, not as a health claim.
Will I actually notice a difference?
Most people notice less chlorine smell in the shower and skin and hair that feel less dry over time. Results vary with your local water and your skin — we won't promise miracles.
How often do I replace the shower cartridge?
The cartridge is rated for around 20,000 litres. For a typical family household that's roughly 3 months of showers — which is why our supply tiers include a fresh cartridge each quarter. A one- or two-person household can stretch it further. Replace it sooner if the chlorine smell returns or the flow noticeably drops. Replacement cartridges are $46.
Will it reduce my shower pressure? Does it fit my shower?
It's rated for 5–8 L/min at standard mains pressure (0.1–0.45 MPa), so most showers see little noticeable change. It fits standard ½" shower arms and installs in about 5 minutes — no plumber needed.
Tap (faucet) filter
What does the tap filter actually do?
It reduces chlorine taste and odour and captures rust and sediment, with a scale-inhibiting media blend that helps limit limescale build-up inside the unit. That's what we claim, because that's what it's designed and specified to do — we don't make PFAS, heavy-metal, bacteria or virus removal claims without product-specific testing.
How does the filter-life display work?
The built-in display tracks how much water has passed through the cartridge and shows when it's time to replace it. It's powered by the water flow itself via a small built-in propeller — no batteries, nothing to charge.
How often do I replace the tap cartridge?
It's rated for around 1,000 litres of filtered drinking water — typically a few months, depending on use. Replace it when the display indicator runs low or the flow drops. Replacement cartridges are $38.
Will it fit my kitchen tap?
It clips onto most standard kitchen taps using the included adapters — no tools or plumber, and no permanent changes, so it's renter-friendly. Made from food-grade materials. If your tap is unusual (pull-out spray heads, some designer taps), contact us before ordering and we'll give you a straight answer.
Shipping, returns & your order
When will my order ship?
Orders are dispatched from Melbourne within 1–2 business days of payment confirmation. You'll get a tracking number by email as soon as it's on its way.
Is shipping free?
Yes — free standard shipping Australia-wide, no minimum. Standard delivery takes 2–5 business days to metro areas, 4–8 to regional and up to 10 to remote areas, after dispatch; express is available at checkout for a flat $9.95. We also ship to 27 countries internationally for a flat $20 AUD — see Shipping & Returns for the country list, delivery times and duties. All prices are shown in AUD; Australian orders include GST.
What's your guarantee?
Every AQVO product comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee — if you're not satisfied for any reason, contact us within 30 days of delivery for a full refund of the purchase price. This sits on top of your rights under Australian Consumer Law. See Shipping & Returns for details.
Can I return a replacement cartridge?
Unopened, yes. Opened or used cartridges can't be returned for hygiene reasons, unless they're faulty.
Still have a question?
If your water is unusual or you're not sure which filter suits you, just ask — we'd rather give you a straight answer than a sale.
