The Science Behind AQVO Water Filters
Our science
The science behind AQVO
Real engineering. Responsible claims. We design filters for the water Australians actually have — and we're honest about what they can, and can't, do.
What's in Australian tap water?
Australia's mains water is world-class — treated, monitored and regulated to strict national safety standards before it ever reaches your home. To keep it safe through pipes, storage and the local network, it's disinfected, usually with chlorine or chloramine.
A small residual stays in the water at the tap. That's important for safety — but it's also why some people notice a chlorine taste or smell, or drier skin and hair after a long, hot shower. AQVO is designed to work with treated mains water, adding a final point-of-use layer at the tap and shower — not to replace municipal treatment.
Not everyone's on town water
Across Australia, what comes out of the tap depends on where you live. We think you deserve a straight answer about each — even where our filters aren't the full solution.
Mains (town) water
Treated, disinfected and regulated to strict national standards — safe to drink. AQVO's job here is comfort: cutting chlorine taste, smell and the dryness it can cause.
Rainwater & tank water
Common in regional and rural homes. Collected off the roof, it isn't disinfected like mains water and can carry leaves, dust, bird droppings and microbes. A point-of-use filter helps with sediment and taste, but it is not a disinfection or treatment system — if you drink untreated rainwater, follow your state health guidance (first-flush diverters, tank maintenance, and disinfection where needed).
Bore & groundwater
Quality varies enormously by location and depth. It's often hard, and can carry iron, manganese or other naturally occurring minerals — and, in some areas, contaminants. Get it tested and treat to suit. AQVO is not a substitute for proper testing and treatment of bore water.
No town-water connection
Many Australians rely entirely on tank or bore supply. We're upfront: AQVO filters are a final polish for water that's already safe — they don't make unsafe water safe. If your supply is untreated, talk to us and we'll point you the right way, even if that's not one of our products.
The honest bottom line: AQVO filters are point-of-use polish for water that's already treated and safe. They don't disinfect, and they don't turn unsafe water into safe water. Where you need real treatment, we'll tell you — and point you the right way.

The expertise behind AQVO
Built on real water-treatment expertise
AQVO wasn't built on marketing language. It was founded by a chartered process engineer (CPEng) with years in the Australian water industry — treatment plant operations, compliance and process design.
That background is exactly why we talk about water the way we do: what's really in it, what a filter can realistically achieve, and what it can't. If a claim isn't supported by engineering or testing, we don't make it.
How AQVO filters work
AQVO uses a multi-stage approach, with media chosen for Australian mains-water conditions:
Our no-overclaiming commitment
Many water-filter brands make sweeping contaminant-removal claims. We don't. Every claim AQVO makes is supported by product design, supplier specifications, engineering principles or verified testing.
We do not claim to remove PFAS, microplastics, heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, fluoride, pesticides or pharmaceuticals unless product-specific testing supports it. We're building a transparent testing profile, and where independent results exist, we'll make them clear. Until then, we won't make the claim. Simple as that.
Have a technical question?
If your water is unusual, or you're not sure what suits your home, just ask — our founder responds directly, and we'd rather give you a straight answer than a sale.
